DeMars Guitars received an unexpected phone call recently from Hugh McDonald, bassist for the band Bon Jovi, who saw the Long Trail Bass Guitar in Bass Player magazine. Dan explains, “After seeing the bass in the magazine, Hugh went to the DG website to learn more and called me.
He really wanted to see the bass in person before the end of their US tour so I flew out to LA for their show at the Staples Center on March 3 to show him the bass, as well as showing the Viridis Guitar to guitarists Richie Sambora and Bobby Bandiera and their instrument techs.” After playing the bass, McDonald expressed his interest in purchasing the first 5-string Long Trail Bass when it is ready early this summer.
Dan adds, “Hugh currently plays a hollow-bodied 5 in the 3-song acoustic set in Bon Jovi’s live shows. He really uses that low B string.” Additionally, the band’s instrument techs totally understood the “road-friendly” concept of the chambered solid bodies (no cracked/warped tops), the “string-thru” design (no lost bridgepins in a dark backstage area) and the use of the AutoTrim tuners (no jabbed fingertips from the string ends while restringing!).
Dan said that the demonstration exceeded expectations and that “the guys who played them said that they were some of the nicest sounding and prettiest instruments they’d ever played – high praise indeed.”
