DeMars Guitars at Bass Player Live 2009
A stunning 5-string Long Trail Bass with flame maple top heralded the presence of DeMars Guitars at Bass Player Live 2009, an annual gathering of top-tier bassists, equipment manufacturers and music journalists. This year’s event was held at SIR Studios on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Ben Cole of D’Addario was kind enough to have the DG occupy a prominent place at their display booth. While there, the Long Trail was played by such fine bassists as Jay Terrien, Mark Valencia, Derrick Murdock, Tony Smith and Phil Chen, among others.
Unlike the immense NAMM show that attracts musicians of every ilk, BPL allowed a focused forum of the low-string fraternity… and sorority. At the BPL bash on Saturday night at the Key Club on West Sunset, we ran into old and new friends, including Leland Sklar, Hadrien Feraud, Rocco Prestia, Andrew Gauche, Rickey Minor, Tony Levin, Verdine White, Steve Bailey, Tal Wilkenfeld, Jonathan Herrera and Stu Hamm. We were fortunate to establish a good relationship with the folks from TC Electronic, makers of some innovative bass amps and other related musical gear.
